Join GLC staff and volunteers to remove invasive buckthorn from Hansen Preserve on Saturday, November 5th at 9am.
Hansen is a restored creek habitat nestled along Sugar Creek in Elkhorn. It boasts a sedge meadow, oak opening, and marsh wetland, which hikers can walk through over a boardwalk.
Buckthorn threatens oak and other native habitats, thus affecting migrating songbirds, pollinators, and other wildlife. We will be removing buckthorn in our ongoing efforts to restore the property to a natural landscape.
Hansen Preserve is located at W4391 Cty Hwy ES, Elkhorn. Parking is along County Highway ES.
READ BEFORE YOU GO:
GLC will provide loppers and gloves, and we ask that volunteers please wear hard-soled close-toed shoes (some running shoes, for example, might have a flimsier rubber sole rather than a hard-sole.) Please dress for the weather as well as we will be outdoors.
