Over 100 miles of rural routes, no stop lights but lots of cows. Each route is fully marked and suitable for road bikes. Each rider will receive Moo Bucks to use for ice cream or other snack treats at locally famous ice cream shops and businesses along the way.
Also, if you register prior to August 1st you will receive a free Roun'da Manure T-Shirt. Prices go up after August 1st.
History of the Tour
Starting in 1987, Lon Haldeman & Susan Notorangelo organized a series of one-day rides that would qualify cyclists to participate in Paris-Best-Paris. These rides were called Randonneur rides. Most of them were held in the dairy country of Southern WI, so cyclists started saying “We're going to ride Around the Manure”.
A similar version of the previous rides, called “Around the Manure Century,” was added a few years later. Lon's uncle suggested changing the name to “Roun’da Manure”, making it more similar to Randonneur. The name stuck like manure on a bike tire & it has been called Roun’da Manure ever since.
In 2005 the tour was revitalized to include a clover leaf series of four different loop routes & ice cream shop rest stops along the way. Riders could pick the routes they wanted to ride and redeem coupons for a snack or drink at the local ice cream shops. Everyone returned to Downtown Sharon, the hub in the center of the loops, for a wonderful pig roast.
This is a major fund raising event for the Sharon Chamber of Commerce and helps support their other events and projects during the year. We hope all cyclists can attend this fun and traditional bike ride around the Illinois and Wisconsin State line area.
