Mission - New Beginnings provides free support services to victims of violent crimes, hosts community education events and promotes a coordinated community response for individuals in our community affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and/or harassment. We offer personal, legal, and medical advocacy along with support groups, counseling, safety planning and victim compensation to primary and secondary victims of crime.
Community Resources - Through our community training program, our experienced Advocates have taught sexual harassment sessions at restaurants/bars to staff in Lake Geneva. Our SANE program has offered sexual assault advocacy at SANE exams (Lakeland hospital) to many residents and tourists from Lake Geneva. Our Child/Teen program Advocates and Counselors work with the GLWA to facilitate each year at Lake Geneva's Safety Town in June. We had held weekly healthy relationships - youth groups at Lake Geneva Middle School. Along with author, Jennifer Parker, our Domestic Violence program staff were guests (9/14/2021) at the Lake Geneva Public Library to discuss coercive relationships-open to the public. We attend United Way and Rotary events and support their mission, regularly.
Most Urgent Needs - All services at New Beginnings are free and confidential. Our most urgent need to raise funds for safe and secure short-term housing for those community members fleeing a dangerous situation. We had previously been denied a 'shelter build' in our Elkhorn Office location (serving all of Walworth County). We have shifted our plan to offer transitional housing rather than an emergency shelter. Funds from Restaurant Week would help us tremendously.
