Dementia Friendly Community Initiative, Inc.

The Dementia Friendly Community Initiative, Inc., is a non-profit 501 (c)(3), which has been working to educate Walworth County on how to better relate and communicate with folks affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Since May 2014, DFCI has educated over 6,000 people and trained over 70 businesses including faith communities, VIP Transportation, the A.D.R.C., (Aging, Disability Resource Center) and all but 4 of the police departments, to mention a few. DFCI’s Cycling Without Age program was initiated to provide those affected by mobility issues, Alzheimer’s, and dementia to re-join the community by enjoying the outdoors, feel the wind in their hair, smell the flowers, hear the birds sing and rekindle the feeling of their experience of being on a bike.

The Alzheimer’s Association has reported that there has been a 16% increase in deaths due to isolation for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Give the gift of our community to those who no longer remember or take part in its vitality!
