Our mission is to provide the people of Walworth County nutritional supplemental food and diapers during a time of crisis, in a cheerful, welcoming, nonjudgmental environment without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, physical or developmental disability. The Walworth County Food Pantry provides food to over 1300 families living at or below 185% of the poverty level in Walworth County. In addition, in August 2018, the pantry became the only Diaper Bank in Walworth County and in the first 6 months have registered 102 families in need of baby diapers on a monthly basis. There are no paid employees within the organization, everyone is a volunteer. Currently, many low-income families in Walworth County struggle to obtain an adequate supply of disposable diapers. Traditional health plans as well as Food Stamps/ FoopdShare (SNAP) and the Women Infants and Children Program (WIC) do not allow benefits or vouchers to be used to obtain diapers. Starting in August of 2018, the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank became a member of the National Diaper Bank Network. Walworth County children now have a new reliable source of disposable diapers for qualified families as well as partner agencies. The food bank is the central distribution point for all Senior Stock Boxes providing an additional supply of food for senior citizens (over age 60) living in poverty. The Senior Assistance Mission (S.A.M.) provides these seniors with a bag of toiletries each month. Incontinence supplies are also available for those who need this critical item. The food bank is a “drop site” for 8 other food pantries in the county, assisting in providing food to them whenever possible. The food bank is a member of Feeding America and can purchase food for as little as $.19/pound so $1.00 can buy 5 pounds of ground beef! The food and diaper bank are all volunteers, there are no paid employees. Funds received go directly to support the mission. There are 3 fundraisers each year, Night at the Museum (LG Museum) in the Spring, Halloween Ball at Geneva National (Fall) and Oakfire Dinner in December. A capital campaign to pay off the building debt is currently underway!
