About Dr. Philip, MD

Midwest Sports and Interventional Spine is an all-encompassing interventional pain medicine practice in Lake Geneva and Kenosha, Wisconsin, led by Cyril Philip, MD. Dr. Philip is double board-certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine and uses his vast skillset to treat patients from all walks of life. He prioritizes minimally invasive treatments and non-opioid medications in his care.

Dr. Philip graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois, after double majoring in biology and classical civilization. After completing an anesthesiology residency, he went on to complete a Pain Management Fellowship at the world-renowned Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Mentoring future generations of doctors as an instructor at Harvard Medical School was a passion of his. He also was exposed to the most cutting-edge procedures, which he then brought with him to southeast Wisconsin.

Throughout his career and leading up to his current position at Midwest Sports and Interventional Spine, Dr. Philip has published extensive research and completed advanced specialized training in an array of topics, including vertebral augmentation, lumbar decompression, spinal cord stimulation, the Vertiflex Procedures, MILD™ procedure, and other treatments for herniated discs and spinal stenosis.

Professionally, before going into private practice, he was the Co-Director of the Spine Department at one of the largest healthcare systems in the Midwest. He helped create the Pain Management department at the hospital and collaborated with physicians from multiple specialties.

Today, Dr. Philip uses his constantly expanding knowledge of human anatomy and pain management to treat patients at Midwest Sports and Interventional Spine for arthritis, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, complex regional pain syndrome, and various forms of musculoskeletal pain. He implements the latest techniques backed by current research, including epidural steroid injections, spinal cord stimulation, Peripheral Stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, the Minute Man procedure, the MILD™ procedure, and the Vertiflex™ procedure. Dr Philip was also the first physician to bring the Intracept Procedure to Southeast Wisconsin.   This procedure has helped patients avoid invasive back surgeries.

Predominantly utilizing non-opioids therapies, Dr. Philip’s goal is to get people back to enjoying their activities of daily living. In fact, he was the first person to use the MILD™ procedure nearly 10 years ago in Wisconsin. Dr. Philip was also the first physician in Wisconsin to implant Boston Scientific’s Spectra System for pain control in patients with severe pain.

To make pain management and spine care more accessible, Midwest Sports and Interventional Spine offers convenient telehealth services through PrognoCIS. For patients visiting in person, wait times are short and appointment times are readily available. About the mild® Procedure

mild® is a short, outpatient treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) that restores space in the spinal canal to help improve back and leg pain.* Using specialized tools and imaging, mild® addresses a major root cause of LSS by removing thickened ligament through an incision smaller than the size of baby aspirin, leaving no implants behind, only a Band-Aid.

The minimally invasive mild® Procedure has a safety profile similar to epidural steroid injections but with lasting results, and patients typically return to normal activity within 24 hours with no restrictions.* mild® is covered nationwide by Medicare (all ages, all plan types, including Medicare Advantage) the VA, U.S. Military & IHS. Commercial coverage varies.
