Washington | Block #6

Sketch of team Washington's snow sculpture for 2025

Picture of the Team Washington team members

Team Name:  WA Awesome

Sculpture Title:  They Told Me You Were Gone

Artist Statement:  This sculpture is a reminder to never stop seeking the magic in the world with childish determination. No matter what anyone tells you, or what the world is like around you, there is always magic out there if you're willing to search for it.

Team Members:

  • Matthew Lloyd (Captain): Matt has been sculpting snow for about 14 years, and has loved every second of it. Born in Germany, raised in Alaska, and living in Washington with his family, Matt is a graphic designer who has also created his own board game. "My fondest memory of Lake Geneva (and there are MANY to choose from) would have to be winning the Ohm Award the first year we competed at U.S. Nationals. I didn't even know the award was a thing, and I was so tired I was asleep on my feet standing on stage during the presentation. I woke up to my friends telling me to walk up to the mic and had no idea what was going on, and had to start shaking hands and giving a speech. It was one of the most special and humbling experiences I've ever had."

  • Jesse Mellor: Jesse has been an artist and a sculptor since he was a child, and was hooked on snow sculpting as soon as he saw it. Snow sculpting has inspired him to branch out to different mediums including wood and ice, and is looking forward to learning to sculpt sand. He's looking forward to retiring and creating art full-time. Jesse's favorite memory of Lake Geneva is when he won the Ohm Award, but at the ceremony his award was presented to his glorious mustache instead.

  • Richard Tiffany: Richard has been sculpting for 4 years, and loves every second of it. You can tell by the massive smile on his face and how he just can't stop talking about how much he loves the experience. He is so exuberant he literally skips to the block every morning and has to be dragged away every night. His other hobbies include putt-putt golf, long walks on the beach, and rollerblading. He's hasn't been to Lake Geneva yet, so his favorite memory so far is being invited to this event.
