Charity Check

The Charity Check sponsored by Lake Geneva Country Meats

Congrats to the 2017 Winner, Lakeland Animal Shelter!

Reilly Matelski, VISIT Lake Geneva

VISIT Lake Geneva is excited to announce the local non-profit organizations that have been selected to appear on the Lake Geneva Restaurant Week Charity Check ballot. The Charity Check allows diners to fill out a ballot selecting one of the participating charities to receive a $5,000 donation.  It’s a fun and easy way to support a non-profit cause while enjoying 10 days of delicious dining around the Geneva Lake area.

At the end of Restaurant Week, all the Charity Check ballots are totaled, and the organization with the most votes will receive the $5,000 donation. This donation is presented by Lake Geneva Country Meats, the sponsor of the Lake Geneva Restaurant Week Charity Check. Past recipients of the donation include The Walworth County Alliance for Children in 2015, and Agape House for Girls in 2016. This year’s eligible non-profit organizations were selected through a competitive application process from a pool of 15 applicants. This year’s chosen participating non-profits include the following:

1. Black Point Estate & Gardens:

Black Point Estate and Gardens is a historic house museum on the south shore of Lake Geneva. Their mission is to connect people to the past by collecting, preserving and sharing stories. Their purpose is to help create a sense of place for local residents and serve as a cultural heritage destination for visitors.

2. Lakeland Animal Shelter:

Lake Geneva Animal Shelter’s skilled and committed staff, with the help of over 100 dedicated volunteers care for over 2,500 homeless animals annually from the southeastern Wisconsin area. Their ultimate goal is to reunite the animals with their owners or find suitable new adopted homes for them.

3. Lake Geneva Youth Camp:

Lake Geneva Youth Camp & Conference Center and Conference Point Center exist to provide a place set apart for campers and guests to have life-changing experiences. We operate throughout the year serving over 28,000 young people, families and adults annually, supported by a volunteer staff of over 400 dedicated individuals. Our camp programs serve individual families, and our conference centers serve church and church-affiliated ministries.

4. Never Say Never:

Never Say Never is an organization dedicated to building a play land in Lake Geneva that will have a focus on special needs, but where all can come together to play. The play land will have adaptive pieces of equipment that allow for both able bodied and disabled bodied children to come together to play.

5. Side By Side:

Side by Side helps the “working poor” of the Lake Geneva area. Side by Side offers families who have encountered a short-term financial crisis with emergency financial assistance. This emergency assistance helps to support them while they seek long term solutions for their emergencies.

6. United Way of Walworth County:

United Way of Walworth County strives to meet the current and emerging needs of the residents living within the Walworth County area through a voluntary and cooperative effort. The mission is to unite communities, increase and focus resources, and to inspire people to measurably improve citizens’ lives.

Non-profit organizations chosen to participate in the Charity Check are expected to promote Lake Geneva Restaurant Week through their email, newsletter, web, and social media channels to encourage volunteers, staff, sponsors, members, and supporters to get our and enjoy a great meal…and vote!

The Charity Check is made possible through the generous support of Lake Geneva Country Meats.

PLEASE NOTE: After a Charity has been selected as a recipient of the $5,000 Charity Check, the organization will be ineligible for participation in the Charity Check program for 3 years. Nominations from previous years will not be carried forward from 2017. Please submit a new application for 2018.
