Mission
The Forbeck Foundation was founded by parents who tragically lost their son, Billy Guy, to neuroblastoma at age 11. Billy’s battle highlighted the lack of communication between medical experts for treating the disease and sharing findings, inspiring his parents to create change. After his passing, they launched the Forbeck Forum in 1985, bringing together global cancer researchers and practitioners to collaborate on improving neuroblastoma treatments.
Today, we honor Billy Guy’s legacy by celebrating 40 years of impact. The Foundation continues its mission by organizing annual scientific meetings where researchers share unpublished findings and work together to advance cancer treatments, early detection methods and ultimately, a cure. In 2025, the Foundation will expand these historic meetings from 10 to 15, including 5 in Lake Geneva. The forums now cover both pediatric and adult cancers, promoting collaborations that drive groundbreaking research.
The Foundation also supports initiatives like the neuroblastoma database (INRGdb), accelerating the pace of research. Nearly four decades after Billy Guy’s death, his legacy endures through the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to transform cancer research, improve patient outcomes, and move closer to finding a cure.
Community Resources
The Forbeck Foundation has made a significant impact on the Lake Geneva community, both through our global reach and local engagement. We host at least two scientific meetings annually in the area, with five planned for 2025, bringing together a global audience of cancer researchers. Invitations are sent to over 3,500 experts worldwide, elevating Lake Geneva’s profile as a hub for cancer research and collaboration. The recognition of Forbeck Scholars further enhances the region's reputation.
Beyond our global influence, we are committed to supporting the local community. We host several events throughout the year that benefit both the Foundation and the local economy. These events, such as the "Toast to 40 Years Wine Dinner" taking place at Celebration on Wells in partnership with Lake Geneva Outdoors and Lake Geneva Country Meats and the "Spring Scholar Retreat," with a fun engagement event for the public called “Taste of Lake Geneva” will take guests to Guac Star, Topsy Turvy, The Bottle Shop and Magpie’s driving business to local establishments. We are active members of Visit Lake Geneva and collaborate with other nonprofits and local partners to foster community ties and boost tourism. Our initiatives not only raise awareness for cancer research but also contribute to the economic vitality of the region.
Through these efforts, the Forbeck Foundation continues to strengthen Lake Geneva’s community while advancing the fight against cancer.
Most Urgent Need
Our most urgent need at this time is financial support for the 2025 Spring Scholar Retreat, one of our two regular annual meetings held in Lake Geneva at The Bella Vista Suites. The total cost for this event is between $30,000 and $40,000, which covers all expenses for scientists and mentors attending from around the world. This includes air travel, accommodations, meals and beverages, meeting facilities, local transportation, and social events. Your contribution will play a crucial role in making this important gathering possible.
