               Mission

The vision of SMILES is that we transcend traditional therapeutic methods by offering individuals with special needs, of all ages, the joy of participating in an equine-assisted program that provides social, emotional, physical, and personal rewards. Our vision is that by encompassing inclusion and growth, we provide community fulfillment, opportunities, and smiles through premier equine assisted services. SMILES is a very special place where the staff, board, clients and volunteers come together to support our clients and achieve goals. The sense of community is palpable and the smiles magic that happens fills all of our hearts as it is a place of inclusion and joy for all. We want to make sure that the healing power of our equine partners is something that is available to all in the community. SMILES started in 1985 and has grown over the last 40 years, we continue to be committed to our mission and growth to serve those with disabilities in our community.

               Community Resources

SMILES offers a variety of programming including our traditional therapeutic riding taught by our PATH certified instructors, an unmounted program called HEARTS (teaching clients about horse anatomy and behavior, grooming and tacking a horse, and ground work, as well as equine educational experiences for groups and a new Reading and educational program just launching called Manes and Tales. We try to provide programming that would allow all to participate where they are at.

               Most Urgent Need

Overall operational expenses at our facility are high. From salaries and wages to facility heating-cooling allowing for year long programming, farrier and vet care for our 21 horse herd, to facility and barn maintenance, and horse feeding there are always needs. We also launched a Capital Campaign in 2025 to raise 1.5 million to expand our barn, cover a portion of our outdoor arena, and add accessibility and upgrades to help us sustain our campus and organization. We are excited to share we over half way to our goal which is allowing us to break ground on our barn expansion this summer of 2026. This should help us expand services to address our wait list of over 50 individuals at this time.
