An idea that began as a casual conversation among friends has now evolved into a tangible project ready for input from the community. A formalized 501(c)3 organization has been founded to build and operate a children’s museum in Lake Geneva.
Unlike traditional museums, which typically showcase artifacts for observation, children’s museums encourage hands-on learning and exploration, with exhibits ranging from STEM-focused themes to art and career role-play. Exhibits align with educational and developmental goals that promote such skills as critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.
The group known as the Geneva Lake Children’s Museum feels that such a place is missing from Lake Geneva: a place for local families to visit regularly, and also an option for visitors, school field trips and community events. A parcel of land near Veterans Park is available for this purpose, and the group is launching a capital campaign, and asking for community input and support.
An inaugural fundraiser, “Rediscover Wonder,” will take place on Friday, April 4, at the Riviera Ballroom, to introduce guests to the museum concept and begin raising funds. All proceeds from the evening will go directly toward the fundraising efforts and construction of the museum. To buy tickets, visit genevalakechildrensmuseum.com. -
