BLOCK #2  |  MICHIGAN 2

Sketch of the 2026 Winterfest Snow Sculpture for Team MI-2.

Collage photo of the team members for Snow Sculpting Team MI-2.

Team Name:

Soggy Mitten Boys

Sculpture Title

Guardian of the High Banner

Artist Statement:

This sculpture portrays a winged female warrior poised at the threshold between earth and sky, her flag raised not as a symbol of conquest, but of endurance. The wings evoke both mystic strength and the quiet resilience required to rise above conflict. The flag she holds becomes a beacon - an emblem of ideals carried forward even in turbulent times. Through her stance and upward gaze, the work reflects the moment of choosing courage over fear, purpose over fought. She stands as a guardian figure, a reminder that strength is not the absence of struggle, but the unwavering commitment to stand for something greater than oneself.

Team Members:
  • Adam Dennison (Captain): I was inspired by first making tools for a high school team and thought I should be doing this. I have always enjoyed sculpting whatever I could get my hands on and snow is a great outlet. I am a creative individual by nature and when not sculpting snow, I am competing and organizing sand sculpting and pumpkin carving events, as well as iron casting. I enjoy designing and making trophies for sand competitions.
  • Spencer Scharf: I am an artist and art educator running my small business S3ARTS. My high school art teacher selected me as captain for a state wide high school snow sculpting competition in 2011. Winning in high school gave us an invitation to the state level competition. Meeting veteran snow sculptors and hearing the stories and legends of the event had me hooked on snow sculpting! I have attended the event every year since and climbed the competitive ladder from the state to world class double block (previously international) level and had the honor of carving alongside legendary artists. Through my business S3ARTS I create a variety of commission artwork primarily paintings and sculptures. I also teach workshops for all ages including sand and pumpkin sculpting. Additionally, I participate in sand and pumpkin sculpting competitions and demonstrations.

  • Tom Ward: I was inspired to begin snow sculpting because I enjoy spending time with my team, meeting new sculptors, and connecting with the spectators. I am also motivated by the creativity and artistry displayed by fellow sculptors. I express my creativity through painting, crafting, and woodworking. I enjoy finding new ways to bring ideas to life and share them with others.
