Nocturnal Ascent
ARTIST STATEMENT:
In memory of Dave - a vast and silent owl with outstretched wings rises from the darkness. In the stillness of sleep, his spirit was lifted by the owl he admired, carried gently into the eternal quiet.

Carlos Miguel Ramirez Pereyra (Captain): Inspired by the challenge of the cold coming from the hot Mexico and the size of the blocks, Carlos has been competing in snow sculpting all over the world since 2008 winning many accolades. When not sculpting, Carlos is a wedding planner, interior designer, and architect in Mexico.

Israel Magaña Rodriguez: Israel Magaña, a longtime gym personal trainer with a professional background in nutrition and graphic arts, has always felt drawn to monumental snow sculpture. From the moment he first saw it and experienced it in 2017, he was captivated. Every year, he strives to go further, cross new borders, meet new snow friends and achieve international awards.

Matthew Mark Seeley: Matt has been a competitive snow sculptor for over 20 years and designs and manufactures his own snow sculpting tools. He has been a volunteer, judge and exhibition snow sculptor numerous years at the St. Paul Winter Carnival. In 2019 Matt helped organize and host the first Nebraska State Snow Sculpting competition in Elkhorn, NE. Matt has taught snow sculpting and mentored numerous teams over the years, conducts workshops, and has taught snow sculpting classes at Central Community College in Hastings, NE. Matt has been a team member on multiple national and international snow sculpting teams.
