BLOCK #5 | WISCONSIN 1

TEAM NAME:
Sculptora Borealis
SCULPTURE TITLE:
Controller of Worlds
ARTIST STATEMENT:
This sculpture is a fun, yet scary depiction of a young alien playing a video game. The video game, Controller of Worlds, allows the player to control humans on Earth. All of us here at Winterfest are just characters inside this video game being controlled by an alien. Pretty crazy idea that is usually quickly dismissed, but several leading minds around the world think we are living in a simulation. Just a little something to make you scratch your head and think about a super abstract concept that people are actually talking about across the planet. What do you think? Let us know what your thoughts are on this topic - we'd love to hear them! Happy Winterfest!
Team Members:
-
Joshua Jakubowski (Captain): Josh has been sculpting ice since 2015, snow since 2017 and sand since 2023 with aspirations to travel internationally for snow and to become a master sand sculptor in the future. Josh works in product design and engineering and loves to design furniture, sculpt with clay, fix up broken vehicles and draw new snow, ice & sand sculpting concepts in his spare time. Josh also enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing and anything to do with the outdoors. Fun Fact - Josh, Bob & Mike Lechtenberg (Sculptora Borealis) are the 5-time defending champions here in Lake Geneva at Winterfest.
-
Bob Lechtenberg: Bob has been competitively ice sculpting since 2005, snow sculpting since 2017, sand sculpting since 2023 and attended his first snow sculpting competition as a spectator in 1986 in Milwaukee as a 6-year-old. He has been featured as a coach/competitor in Disney's holiday movie "Best in Snow" with Kermit the Frog and is getting more involved in sand sculpting. As an organizer, he helps run ice, snow and sand events, like the Manitowoc, WI Sand Sculpting Competition, travels down to FL to compete/run events as well, and is looking forward to starting more sand events in SE WI in 2026. He also just bought machinery that can make real or fake snow in any weather any time of the year in the US and loves to deliver legendary experiences under his Abominable Snow, Ice and Sand business. Bob also loves spending time with his amazing family and escaping to the outdoors, doing things like waterskiing, camping, rock climbing, and hiking.
-
Mike Lechtenberg: Mike's artistic Mom was always supportive and complimentary. With this support he always liked art and sculpting. When his son invited him to participate, first sculpting ice, then sculpting snow, he joined him. Mike says, carving a clear material like ice is challenging and stunning when done well. Carving snow is big and impressive especially when combined with a message promoting thought, discussion and growth. Besides Ice and Snow carving which he has been doing since 2007, he likes wood carving, photography, gardening, landscaping, and water activities (swimming, waterskiing, rafting, etc.). He is also involved with the Society of St Vincent de Paul at St John Vianney Parish, Brookfield, WI.
