BLOCK #6 | MINNESOTA 1

TEAM NAME:
Doing Our Best
SCULPTURE TITLE:
It's a Moth and Mushrooms
ARTIST STATEMENT:
We love creating beautiful things. Please enjoy this moth on a mushroom.
Team Members:
-
Carmen Martin (Captain): Carmen was first intrigued by the snow sculptures at the Minnesota Winter Carnival and state competition in her neighborhood by happenstance. She chatted up some of the local sculptors at the event and learned that anyone with two buddies and a shovel can enter the competition, so she rounded up Maddy and Erik and some garden tools and team Doing Our Best was born!
Carmen works as an exhibit fabrication artist at a small but world-renowned art studio where she makes frog eggs and bees and flowers and crabs and dinosaurs and wooly mammoths. In her free time she enjoys walking around in the woods, drawing, welding, sewing, and basically making cool stuff. -
Maddy Dall: Maddy also works at Blue Rhino Studio where she paints murals, illustrates exhibit graphics, and makes snakes and skunks and plants and birds and dinosaurs. In her non-working hours she draws, gardens, designs and creates costumes, and plays the banjo.
-
Erik Krenz: Erik also creates art professionally as a stained glass artist at Conrad Schmitt Studios. In his free time, he paints little birds and grows tomatoes.
All three of the team members are drawn to the challenge of working snow in its ever-changing moods and making it into something beautiful yet ephemeral, as well as the strong and welcoming community of fellow snow sculptors.
